Hi Everybody!
A part of getting to know me is learning about how I stay fit and how fitness is such a big part of my life. I’m a long distance runner, but my fitness journey started long before I started running marathons. To better explain this I’m going to go in chronological order:
High School: I went to high school in San Diego, California and my freshman year I wanted to be on the lacrosse team. Long story short, I didn’t make it past the first day of try outs and I was super bummed. I really wanted to be on a sports team with my friends. The track team at my high school didn’t make cuts and at the absolute last minute a few of my friends convinced me to go to practice. I told myself that if I didn’t like it, I didn’t need to go back. Well, I ended up going to practice the next day, and the day after that, and every day after that for the next four years. Running became a huge part of my life faster than anything had before. I was racing track and cross country through my entire high school experience, picking up a few team captain awards along the way.
College: I moved to New York to complete my undergrad and still wanted to keep running as part of my life, but I wasn’t sure I could keep up the speed workouts alone. This is when I really fell in love with the long distance races. They were less pressure, but I could still keep my fitness level up and continue to push myself to see how far my body could go. In the middle of 2014 I ran my first marathon, and I ran my second at the end of 2015. Throughout that time I ran about another 10 half marathons.
Post-grad: I am currently in the awkward post-grad stage where I don’t feel old enough to “adult” but I am too old to just sit around watching Netflix and keep my fingers crossed that I don’t start to get soft around the edges. I am using running as a stress outlet now more than I ever have, but I have to keep signing up for races to keep my goals in check. In 2018, I am hoping to run a couple half marathons and at least one more full.
Now that you have a little bit more of an idea about my fitness background, I will be posting about my current training, different things I am trying out, and asking if you all have tried any workouts that you would recommend too!
Love always,
Nikki ❤
